Colorado Walks is working with cities and towns across the state to establish "Official Community Miles" in the heart of downtown business districts, town centers, and neighborhoods. The establishment of an "Official Community Mile" is multi-purpose:
- To create an annual one-mile walking event along the mile that brings families together to the community and walk for fun
- To use the mile as an economic generator to bring tourists to your community and let them know where to walk and shop
- To identify interesting historical, cultural, and other important features along the mile
- To stimulate increased pedestrian activity throughout your community.
The Woodland Park Downtown Mile is Colorado Walks first "Official Downtown Mile", celebrated its grand opening on September 23, 2007. You are invited to Woodland Park to walk their mile, celebrate the success of they are experiencing through increasing the number of people walking in their community, and see what a Mile could do for your downtown business district.
Don't stop at your downtown - Colorado Walks is helping communities across the state establish one-mile walking routes in neighborhoods and other unique locations. The goal is simple - create more walkable opportunities and more people will walk.
