Colorado Walks is working with cities and towns across the state to establish "Official Downtown Miles" in the heart of their downtown business districts. The establishment of an "Official Downtown Mile" is multi-purpose:

  • To create an annual one-mile walking event along the mile that brings families together to walk and celebrate your downtown business district
  • To use the mile as an economic generator to bring tourists to your downtown business district and let them know where to walk and shop
  • To identify interesting historical, cultural, and other important features along the mile
  • To stimulate interest in businesses along the mile through increased pedestrian activity.

The Woodland Park Downtown Mile is Colorado Walks first "Official Downtown Mile." Established by Colorado Walks co-founder, Jan Ward, the Woodland Park Downtown Mile will celebrated its grand opening on September 23, 2007. We invite you to come walk with us to celebrate the success of the our Mile Designations and see what a Mile could do for your downtown business district.

Don't stop at your downtown - Colorado Walks is helping communities across the state establish one-mile walking routes in neighborhoods and other unique locations. The goal is simple - create more walkable opportunities and more people will walk!

You are also invited to participate in America's Downtown Mile Race Series. Watch for updates on additional cities being added to this tour this year!
