Colorado Walks
Golden Footprint Award

Nomination Guidelines

Introduction

Colorado Walks created the Golden Footprint Award to celebrate the accomplishments of individuals, groups, and organizations dedicated to encouraging and promoting walking for health, fitness, and transportation in Colorado. Golden Footprint Award recipients bring to life the vision of making their communities more walkable and enabling more people to walk.

The Golden Footprint Award honors individuals, organizations, businesses, or government entities for:

  • Exemplary accomplishments in improving the built environment for pedestrians such as innovative engineering solutions and safety enhancements;
  • Demonstrated commitment to integrating walking into the fabric of contemporary community life and the daily routines of community members; and
  • Creative and responsible approaches to promoting and encouraging walking for health, fitness, and transportation.

Golden Footprint Awards celebrate and recognize model achievements so that others can learn from them. Each year, Colorado Walks gives up to three awards for outstanding contributions to improving conditions for pedestrians or projects, programs, or activities that increase the number of people walking.

The Colorado Walks Board of Directors administers an open competition to select award winners and anyone can submit a nomination. Completed nomination forms and accompanying materials must be postmarked no later than August 31 of each year. The awards are presented to the winners at the annual Golden Footprint Awards ceremony held during Colorado Pedestrian Month in October.

Eligibility

Any individual, organization, business, or government entity is eligible to receive a Golden Footprint Award. All nominated projects, programs, or activities must have been completed within the last five years, and in existence for at least one year, to prove viability. The Colorado Walks Board of Directors, Advisory Committee members, and staff are not eligible to receive an award during their tenure with the organization.

Criteria

Selection of Golden Footprint Award winners is guided by the following general criteria:

  • Integration of walking into contemporary community life;
  • Creative and responsible approaches to promoting and encouraging walking for health, fitness, and transportation;
  • Model achievements that can apply to a wide range of circumstances; and
  • Significant and demonstrable outcomes such as substantial educational and outreach components, economic benefits, and noteworthy advances in creating inviting and safe places for people to walk.
